And Now, For Something Completely Different…

As Monty Python would say. Love those guys. Wish I could have seen their last show, even if Graham Chapman was there only in spirit.

So. What’s so different, you ask? Well, I’m now a rock collector. No, really. Rocks. Or, perhaps I should say, gem rocks. Emerald, sapphire, ruby…you get the picture. Mind you, these aren’t “gemmy,” that is, suitable for being cut and polished into jewelry stones. But an emerald is an emerald, you know? I bought a huge, 5-pound chunk of obsidian that I’m going to put goodness knows where. I also bought a Herkimer diamond. These are crystals that are found only in Herkimer County, in upstate New York. This one has a water bubble in it. I mean, there’s water in there. And that water would be 400 to 500 million years old. But I would dearly love to have a blue garnet. Very rare, these stones. They’re blue in fluorescent and sunlight, but purple under incandescent light. They are wildly expensive, too. I found a site that sells them, and they have some lovely specimens at lovely prices. I hold myself back because even though I have the cash, I’m not certain I have the money. I mean, I’m trying to promote my books, and I’ve got a third one coming out. I dropped $1200 just yesterday to promote The Moreva of Astoreth and The Underground on ONE site.  And who knows what’s coming down the pike?

At any rate, I suppose this means I’m through with collecting jewelry. Well, I do need a pair of black pearl earrings to go with my black pearl necklace. And let’s face it, I may go on collecting pearls. One can never have enough pearls, I say. But the shinyshiny prettypretty things are over and done with. I have several pairs of diamond earrings in various colors. I have topaz, ruby, emerald, tanzanite, amethyst. And a lot more. Wait…I don’t have aquamarine earrings. Okay, well…maybe aquamarine.

Back to books, if you don’t mind. I saw the rough videos–very rough–for Invasion’s book trailer. This is going to be sooo cool when it’s finished. I’m looking forward to it. I mean, I’ve sunk some bucks into this project, too. See what I mean? The blue garnet will just have to wait.

Anyway,  there you have it. What I’ve been up to besides promoting books and trying to get Invasion out. It’s been busy, no doubt about that. And I have a feeling it’s going to get even busier fairly soon. It doesn’t help that I need to have a day job. I like it well enough, but it takes up a lot of time, time I’d rather be spending on my writing career. On the other hand, my job is funding my writing career. So I’m kinda stuck, you know? Still, it could be worse. I could have NO job, like I did when the MTC got rid of me. Granted, I had money, but I also have a mortgage. What I ended up with when I left sounds like a lot, but it really isn’t, not when you have to keep a roof over your head, eat, and all those other little life details that so many of us with good-paying jobs take for granted. Thank goodness I don’t have a car note!

This post has ended up being longer than I anticipated. This post has also gone all over the place. Guess I just needed to talk a bit. So I’ll sign off and say good night. Or good morning, rather, since it’s about 4:30 AM…
